In the early years, the Greater Kansas City Area was no different than most other parts of our country where social injustices caused and challenged the chapter to make a difference and positively impact the community we served. Throughout the many years of our existence and evolving with the ever changing times and situations, Mu Omega Chapter has both implemented National/International programs, participated in many gifts of services, provided purposeful events along with programs specifically based on the needs of the Kansas City, Kansas Community.
Our major areas of focus have been: Education, Leadership, Economic Development, Scholarship and Service. The chapter has conducted Leadership Development activities that range from chapter workshops, forums and guidance/counseling seminars. Mu Omega Chapter has made annual contributions and developed partnerships with a multitude of organizations such as; NAACP, SCLC, Urban League, UNCF, Cleveland Job Corp Center, Africare and National Association of Negro Women's to name a few. Mu Omega Chapter has co-hosted eight (3) Boules, one (1) Leadership Seminar, Mid-Western Regional Conferences, Area Workshops and Cluster Meetings in our 95 years of existence.
Mu Omega Chapter has been the proud sponsor of the Historic Delta Chapter at the University of Kansas and Beta Nu at Pittsburgh State University. Signature programs have been the sponsorship of the Ebony Fashion Fair (Scholarship Fundraiser), co-sponsorship of the Greater Kansas City Debutante Ball, letter writing campaigns, Central Avenue of Hope, Senior Residential Center, Voter registration drives and our Annual Scholarship Awards.
In 2012, the membership launched the Metropolitan Leadership Institute, Inc. (MLI), to maximize funds which provide a vehicle to solicit grants, contributions/donations and provides funding for the chapter’s programs including supporting educational opportunities to the community. We are proud to serve and salute our beloved Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®!
